WA: Pool for school in Warnum linked to attendance

An Aboriginal community in Western Australia's far north has been given a new swimming
pool as part of a deal with the federal government .. designed to entice children to attend
school.

The community pool was opened yesterday in the Kimberley community of Warnum .. to
mark the beginning of a shared responsibility agreement with the Western Australia and
federal governments.

Under the agreement .. children have to go to school for access to the pool to continue.

The use of swimming pools has also had a health impact .. with the opening of other
community swimming pools resulting in a decreases in skin infections and ear diseases.
