New CPD standard.(education)(continuing professional development )

The Commonwealth Government recently launched a new Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) standard. The Board will now require 20 hours of CPD for nurses and midwives per year. In releasing the standard the Board said in part: "All nurses and midwives must meet the CPD standards. This standard sets out the minimum requirements for CPD. CPD must be directly relevant to the nurse or midwife's context of practice. The Board reserves the right to give exemptions in individual cases."

This standard does not apply to students or nurses and midwives who have non-practising registration. The new standard includes the following:
