NSW: Children orphaned in overnight crash

Three children have been orphaned in a car crash on the state's roads and two otherpeople died in separate collisions overnight.

NRMA Careflight says its medical team flew the children, also injured in the crash,to hospital in Sydney, following the crash at Cooks Gap, about 20 km north-east of Mudgee,in the state's central west.

Police say a man and woman died in a head-on collision and four others were injured- including the children.

The accident occurred around 7.50pm (AEST) on Cassilis Road, when a gold-coloured NissanPintara sedan travelling north collided with a dark blue Mazda Coupe.

The man and woman in the Nissan, both believed to be aged in their 40s, suffered fatal injuries.

Two boys, aged three and 10 and a girl, aged 13, were airlifted to Westmead Hospitalin a serious condition, with the youngest child believed to be critical.

A 35-year-old man was airlifted to Dubbo Hospital with a fractured leg.

Meanwhile, police say a driver also died on the NSW south coast overnight while a pedestriandied after being hit by a car in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

A police spokesman says a northbound Toyota Hi-Lux crossed to the wrong side of thePrinces Highway at Jerrawangla, near Sussex Inlet, about 10.25pm (AEST) and collided witha southbound Mitsubishi.

A 40-year-old man driving the Toyota was killed instantly while a 42-year-old man drivingthe Mitsubishi suffered leg injuries and was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Ulladulla Police on 4454 2542.

And in Sydney's east, an 85-year-old pedestrian was killed at Rose Bay about 8.20pm (AEST).

A police spokesman says a Toyota Corolla hatchback driving along Old South Head Roadand about 50 metres south of Faraday Avenue hit the pedestrian as he crossed the road.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was taken to St Vincents Hospital where he later died.

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers.
